Hugh Rogers

Biography

Resident slave-owner, brother of Thomas Rogers and John Rogers (each of whom q.v.) and co-owner with his family of Clonbrock in Demerara. Natural son of Thomas Rogers senior of Clonbrook.

  1. There is a memorial to Hugh Rogers Esq of Clonbrook in St Andrew's Church, Georgetown, giving his date of birth as 14 Dec 1786 and date of death as 8 July 1839.

  2. Hugh Rogers, joint proprietor of Clonbrook and book-keeper at Bachelor's Adventure, gave evidence against several enslaved people following the Demerara Rebellion in 1823. During the same trials, Simon Rogers confirmed that his brothers John, Hugh and Thomas Rogers were joint proprietors of Clonbrook.
