Son of Walpole Eyre I and Sarah Johnson (sister of Godschall Johnson I) and inheritor of the St John's Wood estate in London, on which he together with his brother Walpole Eyre II undertook the development of the modern inner London suburb. In the will of Sarah Eyre nee Johnson's and Godschall Johnson I's father John Johnson of Blackheath, he noted that she was entitled at his [the testator's] death to £2000 settled on her by her brother and secured on their late mother's estate in Antigua.
