'Of Essex', awarded one-third of the compensation for the Amsterdam estate in British Guiana, which had belonged to his father James Grant (d. 1822) and his uncle Peter Grant (both of whom q.v.). In his father's will (made in 1820) he was described as 'merchant of the City of Antwerp.'
T71/1259: shows Charles Grant residing in the county of Essex, England. Charles Grant was the son of James and the nephew of Peter. Letter, dated 16/11/1835, from Porter & Nelson, states that Charles Grant has no interest in the two-thirds of the estate of which N.C. Tindall was trustee ('which belong to the Chief Justice').
