Open science is an approach to research practices across all disciplines, which embraces a culture of openness whereby sharing and collaboration are integrated at all stages of the research process. It includes the principles of open access and open research data, and supports all outputs from publicly funded research being openly accessible and sharable. It also aims to remove barriers to advances in research by utilising digital technologies and collaborative tools, including the use of open notebooks, open peer review, open educational resources and citizen science.
Aim:
To introduce the principles of open science, and the importance of these principles to researchers and research processes in any discipline.
By the end of the session attendees will:
- be aware of the facets of open science
- recognise the relevance of open science in relation to various research scenarios
- have reflected on how open science relates to the research cycle
- be aware of legal issues in relation to open science, such as copyright and intellectual property rights
- be aware of support for open science practices available at UCL
For more information or to make a booking please email libraryskills@ucl.ac.uk. This session is also part of the Doctoral School Skills Development programme. Postgraduate research students at UCL should book a place by logging in via the programme website.
