Bentham Collection (circa) (1993)
Brigadier-General Sir Samuel Bentham (1757-1831) was an engineer and
naval architect and was an official in the Russian Navy (1780-1791) and
in the British Navy (1795-1831). He was the brother of the reformer and
philosopher Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832).

Transcripts and photocopies mainly from the mss in the British Library relating to the Russian travels of Samuel Bentham in 1781-1782. Includes a translation of "Severnoe prichernomor'e v 1775-1800gg" by E I Druzhinina (Moscow, 1959). Also contains some other related papers including a photocopy of the 1783 diary of Gertrude Harris, sister of the British Ambassador at St Petersburg.1 box containing 2 folders and 3 envelopes
