Macartney Collection (circa) 1768
George, Earl Macartney (1737-1806) was a British statesman and diplomat. He was envoy extraordinary at St Petersburg 1764-1767, Chief secretary of Ireland 1768-1772, Governor of Madras 1781-1785 and most notably the first British ambassador to China 1792-1794. He wrote a number of memoirs of his travels.

Manuscript draft of parts of Macartney's work "An account of Russia MDCCLXVII". The order of the sections differs considerably from the published version which also includes chapters on history and arts and sciences as well as tables of exports and imports. There are various textual differences, usually minor.(circa) 1768
