The Garside classification was devised by Kenneth Garside, UCL's Deputy Librarian from 1945-1958, to suit the departmental structure at UCL.
The classification has been developed in various ways for different subject areas.
Some of our libraries use other classification schemes such the National Library of Medicine Classification (or developments of it), the Library of Congress Classification or their own scheme.
