Bending the curve of biodiversity loss
21 October 2024
UCL launches biodiversity campaign to coincide with United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP16).
UCL's campaign Bending the curve of biodiversity loss puts a spotlight on the university's biodiversity research. This research helps to show why biodiversity matters, what the consequences of biodiversity gain and loss are, and how we might reengineer our systems to achieve healthier outcomes for us and the rest of nature.
The campaign launches at the same time as COP16, the 2024 United Nations Biodiversity Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, whose remit is to halt and reverse the decline of nature by 2030.
Professor Gail Taylor, Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, said: "I'm delighted that the Faculty of Life Sciences is launching this campaign to highlight the university's biodiversity-focused research. At a time when global wildlife populations are collapsing and six planetary boundaries have been crossed, UCL's work tracking the health of nature and mapping pathways to a safer future has never been more important."
