Research Themes

Focussing on the specific engineering demands highlighted in the government’s Review of AMR (O’Neill report), we define the three main research themes of our training programme: (i) prevention of infections, (ii) improved surveillance systems, digital health, and rapid diagnostic tests, and (iii) increasing supply and development of antimicrobials and vaccines (novel therapies).

Preventing Infections

Development and testing of technologies that eliminate or reduce the presence of pathogens on surfaces, in water and in air.

Diagnostics and Surveillance

Early detection and diagnosis of AMR is critical to antimicrobial stewardship, public-health surveillance and to prevent transmission.

Antimicrobials and Vaccines

Increasing supply/development of antimicrobials & vaccines (novel therapies).
