Department News, August 2022 Part 1

(1) Ed Goldsmith passed his viva on 26th July. His thesis, titled "The method of homogenisation as a means to parameterise small-scale processes in the ocean and atmosphere", was supervised by Gavin Esler. Congratulations Dr Goldsmith!

(2) Both Kate Fraser and Helen Higgins have been nominated as Inspirational Line Managers by members of their team, through the Astrea Network. Well done Kate and Helen!

(3) We have had a really strong performance this year in the International Mathematics Competition for University Students, which took place in Blagoevgrad, August 1-7, 2022. Bogdan Octavian Grecu (from Computer Science) won a first prize, Duc Cao won a second prize, Boyan Wang won a third prize, and Gaoke Zhang got an honourable mention. UCL 's Team 1 was ranked 43 (out of 100) - the teams were led by PhD students Wojtek Wawrów and Marios Voskou. Congratulations to all involved!

(4) Bruno Roso will start a one-year EPSRC Research Associate post with us in October.
