IntroductionThe Materials Chemistry Centre was established to provide an integrated environment for inApril 3, 2006and chemical engineering at UCL. It incorporates research teams from UCL Chemistry and Chemical Engineering departments, the Industrial Materials Group from Birkbeck College, and the Davy-Faraday Research Laboratory of the Royal Institution. The MCC laboratories are mainly located within the Christopher Ingold building at UCL, and also within the Davy-Faraday laboratories of the RI in Albemarle Street. Renovation and installation of the laboratories was completed in 2004 following a grant from the Strategic Research Infrastructure Fund SRIF-2 programme supported by HEFCE. The MCC Director is Paul F. McMillan, Professor of Chemistry at UCL and at the RI. Research initiatives within the MCC combine experimental studies and computational materials science, for synthesis, characterisation and testing of new materials and processes, and prediction and evaluation of their structures and properties.
