Julie Uchitel

Julie Uchitel photograph

Julie Uchitel is a PhD student at the University of Cambridge in the Department of Paediatrics and in DOT-HUB. She is interested in the clinical applications of fNIRS and DOT technologies in newborn infants. Her current projects examines sleep development in newborns at Rosie Hospital, Cambridge using high-density DOT to understand how premature birth might be related to impairments in brain function. She is a Marshall Scholar, and regularly works with the International Pediatric Association and WHO on topics related to early childhood development and child rights. 

Julie completed her undergraduate degree at Duke University, USA with majors in Neuroscience and French. Her undergraduate research in pediatric neurology at Duke Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) primarily focused on epilepsy and its effect on development. She has also done research on the use of diffuse optical spectroscopy in neonatal intensive care settings at CHOP.
