A larynx that has been obstructed by a piece of pork chop

This specimen shows the pharynx and larynx with the upper part of the trachea and oesophagus. Impacted in the pharynx and completely obstructing the larynx is a large piece of pork chop.

The case history for the specimen reads:

‘From a man who entered an eating house and ordered a chop. Whilst eating it, the waiter left the room for a few minutes and, on returning, found him sitting dead in his chair.’
