Kin Yee is a Consultant Nephrologist in Nephrology, Clinical Lead for Chronic Kidney Disease and Renal Outpatients and Honorary Senior Lecturer. Her research background is in renal transplantation, and she has demonstrated evidence of B cells in indirect T cell responses to graft antigens in patients with chronic graft dysfunction and antibody-mediated rejection using flow cytometry and IFN gamma ELISPOT assays. She is principal investigator at the Royal Free for the multi-centre randomised controlled trial, OuTSMART, to determine if a screening and treatment protocol can prevent premature graft loss. In her role as a renal clinical lead she has developed North Central London integrated guidelines and improved care pathways for patients with chronic kidney disease, and promotes research.

Research Summary

Kin Yee's research interests have been in renal transplantation, particularly in understanding the pathological mechanisms, underlying chronic graft deterioration and developing effective therapeutic interventions to prolong graft survival. Using multi-colour flow cytometry and IFN-gamma ELISPOT assays she found evidence of the role of B cells as well as regulatory T cells in the immune responses to donor antigens in patients with graft dysfunction and histological evidence of chronic antibody-mediated rejection. This has led to a multi-centre randomised controlled NIHR funded trial (OuTSMART) to determine if combined screening for antibodies and a treatment protocol targeting T and B cells can prevent premature graft loss due to chronic rejection, for which Kin Yee is the Royal Free site principal investigator.

 As clinical lead for CKD and renal outpatients, Kin Yee has supported the integration of primary and secondary care for chronic kidney disease for North Central London, developing CKD guidelines, reducing outpatient waiting times, improving pathways of care and facilitating research.
