How you can help UCL devise evidence-based policy to address inequalities

1 January 1970

Publication date: Aug 20, 2014 10:16:04 AM UCL, like all other higher education institutions in the UK, collects equal opportunities monitoring data on its staff, which are submitted to the

Athena Swan Logo hesa.ac.uk/stats" target="_self">Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) on an annual basis. These data enable HESA to get a national picture of who is working in academia and understand where particular groups are underrepresented.

Likewise, UCL uses its own staff monitoring data to devise targeted policy to tackle inequalities, such as mentoring and leadership programmes. This data is also used for exercises like the Athena SWAN Charter and the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index. Without these data, we do not know where inequalities lie and therefore what kind of interventions to take to address them.

It is part of UCL's ethos to take action to address any barriers staff face, so we ask that all staff keep their equal opportunities data updated on an annual basis to assist with this process. The data are held confidentially and are used for no other purpose than statistical monitoring, without which we are unable to do this important work.

Please take a minute to update or input your details, where relevant, and help contribute to creating a diverse and inclusive working environment.
