Professor Alimuddin Zumla, Director of UCL's Centre for Infectious Diseases & International Health, has received the Professional Achievement Award in the 5th Annual Windrush Achievement Awards.
Professor Zumla was selected from a shortlist of nine finalists. The judges felt that he was a top role model for minority doctors, scientists and medical students.
Named after HMV Empire Windrush, the ship which carried some of the first West
Indian immigrants to the UK from the West Indies in 1948, the awards recognise
talent and achievement in the African Caribbean, Asian and Oriental communities.
