Chinese State Councillor at UCL

On Monday 17 November, Professor Malcolm Grant, UCL President and Provost, welcomed to UCL Madam Liu Yandong, the State Councillor of the People's Republic of China. Madam Liu oversees education, culture and science and technology in China.

She was accompanied by a large delegation that included the Chinese Ambassador to London, Madam Fu Ying; the Minister for Education for China, Mr Zhou Ji; the Vice-Minister for Science and Technology, Mr Li Xueyong; the President of Tsinghua University, Dr Gu Binglin and the Chairman of the Council of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Madam Ma Dexiu.

After an overall introduction to research at UCL by Professor David Price (UCL Pro Provost, Research), and presentations on UCL's world-leading expertise in nanoscience and nanotechnology, given by Professor Andrew Fisher (UCL Physics & Astronomy) and Professor Steve Caddick (UCL Chemistry), the delegation toured laboratories in the London Centre of Nanotechnology at UCL, and UCL Chemistry.

The visit was arranged by Professor Zheng-Xiao Guo (UCL Chemistry), UCL's Pro Provost for China.
