Launch of UCL Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans* and Queer Research Network

In the 2014/15 academic year a new university-wide initiative will bring together teaching and research across UCL on lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans* and queer (LGBTQ) equalities, identities and histories.

As an initial step towards the development of a research network in this area, a website has been launched at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/lgbtq-research.

Over the course of the year, a name for the Network will be devised. Also three launch events are planned for 2014/15, led by Dr Ben Campkin (Bartlett School of Architecture), Dr Fiona Leigh (Philosophy) and Dr Bob Mills (History of Art). Please do support these events and circulate information about them to students and colleagues.

Projected aims of the Network include enriching the culture and communication of LGBTQ research at UCL for staff and students; building on existing research at UCL on LGBTQ issues, while also creating a new forum for debating and researching these issues in a global framework; providing a cohesive programme of activities and events; attracting new students to taught and research degree programmes such as the MA Gender, Society and Representation, while also encouraging innovative approaches to research-based teaching; and catering for an expanding graduate student community working within these and related fields.

Interested students should email lgbtq-research@ucl.ac.uk if:

1. They are working on or have an interest in LGBTQ research, and would like to be listed on the website as an affiliated student; or if they are potentially interested in developing future research in this area.

2. They wish to become involved directly in supporting the Network, e.g. helping to organize events, reading group sessions and other activities.

Students can also sign up for UCL's LGBTQ 'Queer Space' reading group and propose topics and readings.
