New NHS vaccination centre opens at UCL
26 August 2021
A new NHS vaccination centre has been opened at UCL, providing local residents and students with the ability to book an appointment in the heart of Camden.
The centre, set up in partnership with University College Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH), is based at UCL’s Bidborough House, Bidborough Street, WC1H 9BT, and opened today (26 August 2021).
Staff from UCLH will run the centre and are looking forward to welcome people who need their first or second COVID-19 vaccination. Everyone is welcome, and you can book your appointment via the national booking system or by calling NHS 119.
In line with the national vaccination programme, it is also anticipated that the centre will offer booster vaccinations to ensure as many vulnerable people are protected against becoming seriously ill with COVID-19 over the winter period.
Bidborough House is a few minutes’ walk from Kings Cross/St Pancras and Euston Stations, and close to the British Library. Access to the centre will be at the Mabledon Place entrance, just on off Euston Road.
UCL President & Provost, Dr Michael Spence, said: “We are delighted the NHS has opened a vaccination centre at UCL, continuing our commitment to support and assist frontline services during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Working with our partners at UCLH, the centre will provide local residents and students the ability to book a vaccination at their convenience.
“The success of the vaccination rollout, along with regular Covid-19 testing, can give all the communities in and around Bloomsbury and Camden the best possible chance of protecting themselves and those around them.”
Tim Jaggard, acting CEO at UCLH said: “Across North Central London we have delivered over 1.8 million doses. This is an incredible achievement and we have seen that vaccines do work, protecting people from becoming seriously ill. As we approach winter, we want to make sure that anyone who, for whatever reason, has not yet had their vaccination comes forward. We are also getting ready to deliver booster doses.”
This UCL-based vaccine centre replaces those at Francis Crick Institute and the Business Design Centre, which closed in August.
In 2020, as part of the national testing programme for universities, UCL freed up space Bidborough House, to facilitate a COVID-19 testing centre for students and staff. This has now been moved to the UCL Student Centre, Gordon Square.
