Andy Nisbet appointed Interim Dean of Engineering Sciences

Professor Nigel Titchener-Hooker, the current Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, has announced his retirement from UCL at the end of September 2024. Professor Andy Nisbet, currently Head of Department of UCL Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering, has been confirmed as Interim Dean of the Faculty of Engineering from 1 October 2024.

Andy has led the Department of Medical Physics since joining UCL from the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and Surrey University, in September 2019. With a deep expertise in Radiotherapy, Andy has worked across many associated fields and in various leadership positions.

Andy Nisbet said:

I’m delighted and honoured to be offered the role of Interim Dean of Engineering Sciences and I look forward to working with colleagues across the Faculty in continuing and building upon the great work Professor Titchener-Hooker has initiated.

Nick Witham appointed Interim Dean of Social and Historical Sciences

Following the appointment of Jennifer Hudson to the role of Vice-Provost (Faculties), Nick Witham, currently Director of the UCL Institute of the Americas, will take on the role of Interim Dean in UCL Social and Historical Sciences from 1 September 2024.

Nick is an interdisciplinary Area Studies researcher, whose work on the history of the United States is transnational in focus and draws on concepts and theories from literary studies, cultural studies, and sociology, amongst other disciplines. As of 1 October 2024, he will be promoted to Professor of American Studies.

Nick Witham said:

I’m excited and privileged to become Interim Dean of SHS. The faculty undertakes cutting-edge research and education at the intersections of the humanities and social sciences. All of us – staff and students alike – are motivated to better understand the social, political, economic, cultural, and environmental processes that have shaped the world over time, as well as by the desire to find new and innovative ways of exchanging ideas about these topics with audiences and stakeholders well beyond UCL. I’m passionate about this mission and look forward to leading and collaborating with colleagues across the faculty during the next year.

Both Interim Deans will be in post for the coming months until the process to appoint permanent Deans is completed.
