Building access security system upgrade: find out how this could affect you

31 January 2024

UCL is planning an important upgrade of the building access control system that cardholders use to gain access to turnstiles and secure doors. This is due to take place on Wednesday 7 February, and continue over the weekend of 10-11 February.

Security turnstiles at UCL

The update will mean on three days some services will be temporarily unavailable. Here's all the details:

Wednesday 7 February - System upgrade:

  • UCL Security will not be able to issue ID cards from the Andrew Huxley Building Security Office.  All other services from this location will continue as usual.
  • We will not be able to action changes to cardholder building access on the day of the upgrade.
  • Cardholder access will not be affected.

Thursday 8 February - Return of service

ID card issue and access editing will be back open.

Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 February - System upgrade:

There will be a scheduled update to equipment across all sites. This could briefly affect all doors on site that are accessed with ID cards. If this happens, please be patient as it will only take a couple of minutes. If you are planning to work alone or in an area with a lot of electronically accessed doors, please take this into account. Fire escapes and doors with button-release are not impacted by this change. If you do experience an ongoing issue with access over the weekend, please call 020 7679 2152. We will have security staff on hand to assist if required.

Thank you for your patience while we update the system. This upgrade will help us to continue to deliver reliable, secure access across UCL.
