Comment: Public health perspective on new weight loss medications

Dr Oliver Mytton (UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health) argues that while new weight-loss medications are an important development, they mustn’t divert attention from a public health approach that addresses the underlying causes of obesity.

In an article in The BMJ, Dr Oliver Mytton (UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health) cautions against relying on weight-loss drugs to tackle the obesity crisis. He argues that a more holistic, lifestyle orientated public health approach would have a greater impact for people with overweight or class I obesity, who largely remain ineligible for weight loss medications.
