UCL celebrates its first graduation ceremonies of 2024

29 May 2024

Last week over 6,000 students crossed the stage at London’s Royal Festival Hall to receive their postgraduate awards – congratulations to our newest graduating class!

6,265 postgraduate students from eight UCL Faculties, along with over 16,500 guests, celebrated their achievements together at 16 spectacular ceremonies across five days.

Graduation is always a special and joyful time and this year was no exception, as graduates reunited and lined up to have their photos taken alongside a life-sized ‘Jeremy Beartham’ bear.

In addition to our postgraduate awards, we also awarded two Honorary Doctorates and admitted five people to our Honorary Fellowship, in honour of their outstanding work, advocacy and philanthropy. Read more about our Honorary Awards on the UCL Alumni website.

Kirsty Walker, UCL’s Vice-President (External Engagement) said: “It’s always such a joy to attend our graduation ceremonies, and see our whole community of staff, graduates and alumni come together to celebrate.  The atmosphere on the South Bank was just brilliant, and that’s thanks in no small part to the teams of staff and student ambassadors who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure all our graduates, and their friends and family, have the wonderful experience that they deserve.

“A special thanks must also go to our Events team, who once again have undertaken the huge logistical job of making sure things ran smoothly across the full five days – and to our Presiding Officers and colleagues in Platform Parties. I can’t stress enough how much this day means to our graduates – it's a celebration of their hard work and a chance for all of us at UCL to show them how proud we are of them, and to wish them luck in all their future endeavours.”
