Welcome to the Developmental Risk and Resilience Unit! We are a research unit at the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences, University College London.

We study the genetic and environmental risk factors that shape how the brain processes social and emotional information in childhood, and how these relate to mental health outcomes. The central aim of our research is to better understand mechanisms of developmental vulnerability and resilience. We look at both those factors that contribute to healthy development as well as those that are linked to the emergence of behavioural and emotional problems.

Two core topics of research in our Unit are the emergence of mental health problems during childhood and adolescence and the impact of early life adversity. We are committed to working together with practitioners and policy makers to translate our basic science findings in order to promote child well-being.
