Tribute: Adrian Rodgers

23 July 2024

We are deeply saddened to announce that Mr Adrian Rodgers passed away recently after a prolonged illness. Adrian began his tenure at the School of Pharmacy in 1982 as the Chief Technician in the Department of Toxicology.

Adrian subsequently led the Stores team, serving as the Purchasing Manager, and was the School Health and Safety Officer until 2022. Throughout his dedicated service, Adrian made significant contributions to the community. His photography skills meant that he frequently captured moments at community events, including the annual Christmas lunches, and was a familiar face at School-wide gatherings. His dry wit brought smiles to staff members, and his warmth left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.

Adrian is remembered by many for his wit. Michelle Wake, Head of the Library, said "I will remember him fondly -  a dry sense of humour and always willing to help. He absolutely will be missed."

Many staff members have memories of Adrian as being a great mentor to students and staff alike. Gus Ronngren, IT Manager, said "Adrian was an asset to the School of Pharmacy and will be missed."

Professor Rob Horne commented on how friendly and helpful he was, by saying "Adrian was a very helpful and considerate colleague. Fond memories of a kind and generous man."

Sonja Weirauch, Finance Manager, also felt that this was a big loss for the School, saying "Adrian worked with the School of Pharmacy for over 40 years, he was a very well respected and beloved colleague, and a very long-standing part of the School of Pharmacy community."

Professor Michael Heinrich added that this was "Very sad news indeed and we will also remember him as a very cheerful and helpful colleague, always supporting the many requests of students and staff."

Professor Cate Whittlesea, Director of the UCL School of Pharmacy, said "I was saddened to hear of this news following his long service to the School of Pharmacy over many decades. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time."

Adrian was a much loved and highly valued member of the School of Pharmacy community at Brunswick Square. He will be greatly missed by all that worked with him. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues that worked with him.
