Our local community, including Samata Khatoon, Mayor of Camden, joined us to learn more about pharmacists’ roles as well as the wide scope of our work at UCL School of Pharmacy as part of the FIP’s World Pharmacist Day event. Contact: Sara Garfield s.garfield@ucl.ac.uk
UCL School of Pharmacy participated in World Pharmacists Day (WPD) 2024 – a campaign led by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). This year’s theme was 'Pharmacists: meeting global health needs.' UCL joined pharmacists all over the world by celebrating WPD and welcoming the public into the School of Pharmacy to show how we “bring health to the world” in the spirit of our school motto Salutifer Orbi.
Our visitors toured the building and learned about the broad range of new services that pharmacists offer in community, primary care and hospital settings. A wide variety of stalls featured a demonstration of capsule making, the UCL Fight the Fakes campaign, exhibiting the global collaboration raising awareness against substandard and falsified medical products, as well as showcasing our other global roles and our research and collaborations. Members of the public said the event was ‘very interesting, helpful and informative’ and ‘showed some of the vast range of pharmacy.’ We were also delighted to be joined by the Faculty of Life Sciences Vice Dean for Health, Andrea Townsend-Nicholson, who addressed our local community.
CEO of FIP Professor Catherine Duggan broadcasted a special WPD message alongside pharmacy staff and students from UCL, and our PharmAlliance partners University of North Carolina, Eshelman School of Pharmacy, USA and Monash University, Australia.
