The Introduction to Research Funding and Management (formerly Fundamentals of Research Funding Management) is a post-award training course for research support staff and researchers responsible for externally funded research and innovation projects at UCL. It is a great refresher for existing staff, and vital for new starters.

About the course


The Introduction to Research Funding and Management course is split into 4 interactive units:

  1. Introducing the funder landscape
  2. Getting started with new awards 
  3. Optimising your research funding
  4. Managing the unexpected.

On this course you will learn to:

  • Describe the importance of good research management
  • Identify when an award has been granted and how to get started
  • Outline the importance of being familiar with funder requirements
  • Determine the best approach to optimising research income and provide reassurance to funders of sound financial management
  • Recognise the importance of considering the external perspective
  • Raise awareness of complexity and risk factors
  • Raise awareness of the importance of active change management
