Fire safety training

29 October 2020

As you return to campus you are encouraged to undertake fire safety training so that you are familiar with what to do in the event of fire, particularly as there will be fewer building occupants in an emergency to assist.

Fire Safety eLearning training

Four short films will increase your fire safety awareness.

  • Fire safety
  • Fire evacuation for persons with a disability
  • Role of the FEM
  • Types of portable fire extinguishers

Accessing the training

All training is available through to the MyLearning online platform.

Building familiarisation

The practical familiarisation walk of your building’s fire escape routes is the most valuable training you can undertake. Accompanied by a Fire Evacuation Marshal, a departmental safety officer or a responsible manager who is familiar with the building and escape routes and using form TN086 as a template.

We suggest that this practical walk of escape routes is carried out in small groups wearing face coverings and social distancing as you progress through the building.

> Download Building Familiarisation Template TN086

If you are conducting the local fire safety familiarisation walk, you may find our guide TN086a a useful reminder of the requirements.

What is MyLearning?

MyLearning is an online platform for all your learning activities. It allows UCL to align any learning tasks with MyHR creating a one-stop shop for MyFinance, MyHR, My reports and MyLearning. You can log on to MyLearning via a single portal using your UCL password (using single sign-on). Please note: in order to access MyHR you must be logged onto the UCL network via your UCL computer, VPN or Desktop@UCL Anywhere.

How do I enrol on a course?

If you are a student, non-UCL employee or haven't used MyLearning before, you will need to create a learning record.

  • Go to the centralised UCL learning page and select the course you would like to enrol on
  • Click ‘enrol’ - you will be asked to enter your UCL ID and password. If you don’t already have a MyLearning record this will automatically be created and you will be asked to log in again in the next 5 minutes
  • You will be taken to the course page in MyLearning for instructor led courses (‘click enrol’) or directly to the online course
  • You will receive notification you have enrolled on the course

A non-UCL employee is anyone who is not on the UCL payroll i.e staff on fixed term contracts, agency staff and contractors.

The video content is slow or slow to load

This could be due to low bandwidth.  Try closing other applications that you have open or you might have to try again later.  Alternatively, try using another browser such as Chrome.

I have completed the Fire Safety eLearning but it doesn't show on my training record

If you have recently completed the eLearning in Moodle then no further action is required as you will already have a record of training completion. You must still complete a local fire safety induction and building familiarisation.

I've tried everything and it's still not working

Please contact fire@ucl.ac.uk and we will investigate what is preventing you from accessing the training.
