Research students to benefit from launch of new Portico processes
10 February 2020
Easy to use online workflow to replace current paper-based forms
From the end of February 2020 research students will be able to submit examination entries or apply for completing research status extensions online.
The current paper forms will be replaced by simple and secure online workflows that notify Supervisors and Departmental Graduate Tutors when applications are ready for review and allow students and staff to track the progress of applications via Portico.
Other benefits of putting these processes online include:
- simplified application process, as data held in Portico will be pre-populated on the form (eg student name and programme details)
- more accurate data, as information entered on the form will be transferred directly into the student’s record
- faster processing times, as students’ records will be automatically updated on approval of the application
- single source of truth, as application information, supporting documentation, staff comments and the final decision will be stored together in Portico
Briefing sessions have been organised for Departmental Graduate Tutors, Research Supervisors and Administrators which will include demonstrations of the new application processes as well as the new status report for monitoring progress of applications.
