New dashboard for Personal Academic Tutors

21 October 2024

Personal Academic Tutors across UCL can now access a new digital platform to support their role.

Personal Academic Tutors across UCL can now access a new digital platform to support their role. The Personal Academic Tutoring dashboard (PATd) launched in September and is helping staff to easily find relevant data to help support students and their academic progress.

The new dashboard allows tutors to:

  • Review tutees’ attendance
  • See modules taken in previous years (if applicable) and the marks obtained in those modules
  • See which modules their tutees have selected for this year (once module enrolment has closed)

The dashboard can be accessed directly from the Personal Academic Tutoring webpage.  For more guidance on how to use the dashboard, please read the Knowledge Base article, which includes answers to frequently asked questions.

Tutors are encouraged to use the dashboard ahead of their meetings with students, and to review the data available so that more meaningful conversations can be held in the sessions. October and November are popular months for hosting initial meetings with tutees, therefore the dashboard will be a useful tool during this period. It is particularly helpful for colleagues who do not regularly use Portico to gather this kind of information.

We hope that in time the dashboard will also be able to flag if a student has a Statement of Reasonable Adjustment (SoRA), monitor Personal Academic Tutoring meeting attendance, store meeting records and manage student references. There is work underway to allow staff to book meetings with tutees via the dashboard, too.

The development of the dashboard forms part of a wider project at UCL that will see us bring in more robust operational procedures for academic support, and improvements in the quality and availability of student data. The dashboard is one of several recommendations arising from the Personal Tutor Review.
