Updated training on Students’ Consumer Rights now available

31 October 2024

The existing Students’ Consumer Rights module has been refreshed to improve the training and guidance for staff.

The existing Students’ Consumer Rights module has been refreshed to improve the training and guidance for staff. This follows on from changes made by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to their guidance for higher education providers. As you may be aware, prospective and current students have rights under consumer protection law, such as the right to accurate information. The module is intended to provide guidance to staff on the law and how it applies to UCL’s interactions with prospective and current students. The training includes information on:

  • What consumer protection law means for UCL and its studentsThe type of information which needs to be provided by UCL
  • Specific guidance on additional costs, accessibility and contact hours
  • Changes to information
  • Terms and conditions

Any staff members who provide information about UCL programmes to prospective students, are involved with admissions processes or are involved in access and widening participation are encouraged to undertake the new module. Please note, if you are involved in the copy call process, this training must be undertaken before you can access the programme summary editor.
