Ukrainian Level 1 Beginners

Level 1 is for people with no previous knowledge of the language or minimal knowledge such as some greetings, the alphabet. The course includes all four skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. It runs over 3 terms.

The course will cover the following:

Topics: the alphabet and pronunciation, greetings, my family, professions and occupation; the place I come from, feelings and likes / dislikes, food, shopping, ordering food in a restaurant; directions, countries and regions of the world, nationalities and languages, Ukraine: map and tourists’ attractions, average Ukrainian / Briton, travelling, hobbies, sports, days of the week, seasons, some aspects of Ukrainian culture.

Functions: meeting other people and introducing oneself, describing your family, home and place where you come from, describing one’s feelings and likes / dislikes, understanding numbers (prices, telephone numbers), shopping, ordering food in a restaurant, describing a simple recipe, understanding directions, talking about daily routine, favourite activities.

Grammar: nouns, gender and cases, verbs in present tense, future tense and past tense, adjectives, numerals, personal pronouns and possessive pronouns, simple adverbs, simple prepositions and conjunctions.
