Dr Calic and Dr Tarsoly workshop on Decolonising Language Teaching
29 January 2024
Dr Jelena Ćalić and Dr Eszter Tarsoly held a workshop at King's College London on a seminar series entitled Decolonising Language Teaching with a focus on less-commonly taught languages.
Jelena and Eszter delivered a workshop entitled When less is more: decolonising language studies from the perspective of non-colonial languages, and organised around four case studies: 1. language naming and labelling in popular discourse and academic administration; 2. undoing boundaries and hierarchies in language studies: building linguistic knowledge in dialogue with communities; 3. the potential in dialogic and dynamic assessment; 4. decentering language studies as critical engagement with institutional practices, traditions, and representations. The workshop initiated a great deal of discussions and reflections, to be continued at a later date.
A recording of the event should be available shortly.
