If you discover or suspect you’ve found asbestos anywhere on UCL premises, you must report it.
UCL has a stringent Asbestos Management Plan and safety policies designed to effectively manage the asbestos materials.
Before you start
You must stop working if you discover or suspects the presence of asbestos-containing materials.
Report it to your line manager, who will consult the UCL Asbestos Manager:

You, or your manager, will need to have access to the asbestos register.

Check the NexGen database to see if someone has reported the asbestos already. You may need to request access.

- 2. Book an asbestos survey
If you would like an asbestos contractor to inspect any suspected asbestos, please fill out the Asbestos Survey Request form and email it to estates.asbestos@ucl.ac.uk

- 3. Survey assessment
Survey requests are processed by our partner Lucion within 24 hours of your request. The final report and drawings will be returned within 20 days. See the full timetable below.

Indicative stages of the survey process to be considered and planned for.
- Survey request: processed and sent to Lucion within 24 hours (one working day).
- New project initial site visit: within five working days of the survey request carry out the new project initial site visit.
- Submission of the proposal: within three working days following the site visit.
- Proposal agreed and approved: within three working days. The university project officer must approve/reject the request (cost and scope of works) and raise a PO.
- Site survey commencement: within five working days: two working days to organise access and three working days for other issues or by arrangement.
- Analysis of material samples: may take five to 10 working days following completion of site works.
- Submission of final report and drawings: within 20 working days following completion of site works.
