Request a work permit

Work permits are requested through the Verature system by University Host Managers. Managers use Verature to set-up an 'Authorisation to Work' and request permits from 'Authorised Persons' dependent on the activity.

'Out of Hours' working is also arranged via the Verature system.

Before you start

Permits are available for: 

  • asbestos remediation
  • confined spaces
  • contractor demise
  • fire alarm or associated fire system isolation
  • hot works
  • lifting operations
  • low voltage
  • high voltage
  • working at height
  • mechanical

Access to the online permit system is only available to Estates staff.

Definitions of UCL's Verature Administrator roles
The roles of 'University Host Manager' and 'Authorised Person' are roles related to the Verature system held by members of staff at UCL. Most staff members are not Verature administrators and don't hold these roles. If you do need to request a work permit and do not know who to contact to reach either a University Host Manager or Authorised Person, please contact the UCL's Compliance team via e-mail.

University Host Managers are able to create 'Authorisations to work. Only 'Authorised Persons' can raise permits for high-risk activities.

Access to the online permit system is available to all members of staff using their single sign-on.
