Module description
This module aims to provide an introduction to statistical methods and interpretation of data, along with associated computing, and to provide some expertise in applying quantitative methods in the Life and Physical Sciences. The statistical methods covered are useful in the routine analysis of scientific methods, as might be encountered in other modules.
Further details are available in the STAT0021 UCL Module Catalogue entry.
Standard prerequisites
GCSE Mathematics
Registration process
The Term 1 delivery of this module has now reached full capacity for 2024/25; no further elective registrations can be accommodated in Term 1.
STAT0021 is offered as an elective. Any student with GCSE Mathematics or equivalent should simply register for STAT0021 on Portico and await a decision. It is not necessary to register separately with a member of staff in the Department of Statistical Science (successful admission to an undergraduate programme at UCL already demonstrates that the prerequisite has been met).
Other considerations
Separate deliveries of STAT0021 are available in Term 1 and Term 2. Students should ensure that they register for the correct term on Portico. This also applies to students for whom the module is compulsory, if their programme still provides the flexibility to select the module in either term.
