Engineering Reality: The Impact and Future of Deepfake Technology
As part of UCL’s Festival of Engineering, a week-long celebration of 150 years of engineering excellence, we are thrilled to extend an invitation to you for a special screening and panel discussion of the documentary 'Another Body,' co-directed by Sophie Compton (UCL alumna) and Reuben Hamlyn, produced by Willa Productions. Winner of the SXSW Special Jury Award, 'Another Body' delves into the unsettling world of deepfake technology through the compelling narrative of American college student Taylor, who becomes a victim of deepfake pornography.
Beyond serving as a cautionary tale about the misuse of technology and the toxicity of the online sphere, 'Another Body' transforms deepfake technology from a weapon against Taylor into a powerful tool for reclaiming her identity and narrating her story.
We are delighted that Sophie Compton will be joining us to introduce the screening of her award winning film, offering insights into its creation and significance. Following the screening join us for a panel discussion on 'Where next for Deepfake policy?' featuring expert panellists. This event is supported by the UCL Dawes Centre for Future Crime.
Panellists will be confirmed shortly, so stay tuned for updates.
