Consolidate office orders to reduce carbon emissions

UCL's new office supply arrangements lead to an 80% reduction in carbon emissions from office deliveries. Read on to find out how you can be part of this change.

What has changed?

In 2020 UCL changed office suppliers, resulting in Banner being the only approved supplier for all staff to use to purchase office supplies. Sustainability improvements were a key reason for this change. Banner will deliver items twice a week, instead of daily, to UCL’s central post team, for delivery to departments on foot or cargo trike. This will reduce carbon emissions from transport by 80% and improve air pollution

What you can do:

Help us reduce waste, carbon emissions, and save money by purchasing items with colleagues under one order. Why? Each order is packaged individually, and costs £100 to process for the PO approval, staff time and packaging – regardless of the order value. 66% of banner orders are under £25!

Deliveries will be made to departments on Tuesdays and Thursdays only, so delaying an order may not delay delivery time. For example, whether you order an item on Thursday or Monday, it will arrive on Tuesday. This means you can collate all the requests from your team during that period and place one, larger order.
