UCL East Community Board
The UCL East Community Board brings community expertise into UCL, ensuring that the ways we work in our spaces and in our local communities is collaborative and mutually beneficial. The Board enables us to tackle challenges from different perspectives.
Community and cultural engagement
Funding, training and networking opportunities are available to UCL staff and post graduate research students. They provide support for engagement activities and partnership opportunities with our east London communities.
Public art programme
We seek to transform how the world is understood and add value to the experiences of everyone who uses or visits the campus. Discover our commissioned art installations from established practitioners, to student residencies and interdisciplinary matchmaking opportunities,

For all students
Community Research Initiative
Make a difference with your masters dissertation or PhD thesis. We can connect you with London’s voluntary sector to share knowledge and ideas, to help shape your research around a current community need.
Volunteering opportunities
Join the 2000 students who have volunteered their time this year by working with London communities. You'll learn new skills, meet new people and make a real difference to this incredible city.
Social Hackathons
Social Hackathons are solution-creating events that connect UCL volunteers with local not-for-profit organisations. Students placed within local charities learn from professionals to gain valuable first-hand insight into Third Sector careers.
Engaging with schools and young people
UCL East Schools Engagement
The team supports schools in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest, with a wide range of subject-related and extra-curricular activities. If you would like to discuss opportunities to get involved, find out more and get in touch.
UCL Widening Access and Participation
For students, find out about our programmes to work as a Student Ambassadors, Postgraduate Taster Presenters (for Master's and PhD students), or Language Ambassadors. For staff, resources and funding are available for running Access and Widening Participation activities.
