Taking place on the terrace of UCL East’s Marshgate building, looking out over breathtaking views of East London, a group of adult audience members are each paired with a young performer from Mayflower Primary School in Poplar. They stand together, looking out at the streets and buildings of the city below, and begin to imagine how that same view will look many years from now.

First created in Glasgow in 2015, versions of Lookout have since been presented in towns and cities across the world, from Manchester to Shanghai and Cairo to Llandudno. In 2017 the project was awarded the Spirit of the Fringe award at the Auckland Fringe Festival in New Zealand.

Now the project is returning to the UK having been re-imagined through conversations with UCL experts on climate change and planetary futures and is being presented to coincide with COP29 in Azerbaijan. At this moment of uncertainty and possibility, this is a chance for adults and children alike to take a step back and see the world from a different angle.

Running time is 30 min. Show times are:

  • On Friday 22 November - 11 am, 11.45 am, 12.30 pm, 2 pm, 2.45 pm and 3.30 pm
  • On Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November - 1.15 pm, 2 pm, 2.45 pm and 3.30 pm

Created and produced by Andy Field & Beckie Darlington - Andy Field and Beckie Darlington collaborate with children and young people on creative projects that initiate new and different kinds of conversations between children and adults. These conversations explore how we live together and the roles we are all able to play within the life of our communities.
