Know Your Contract Right Meeting - Thursday 16 May between 13:

16 May 2024

The purpose of this meeting is to introduce a discussion into the different employment contract types in use at UCL, what their implications are for their bearer’s rights, and to allow members to ask questions.

This is a formal calling notice for an Extraordinary General Meeting of UCL UCU taking place online via zoom on Thursday 16 May between 13:00-14:00.

Members are asked to register in good time using the link emailed to them.

UCL uses a range of different contract arrangements for staff, from academic contracts protected by Statute 18 to one-off contract for services arrangements for visiting staff and contracts provided via an arms-length company called Unitemps. Lecturers (Teaching) and most academic-related and professional staff are given open ended (permanent) contracts, but are not protected by the academic statute. Meanwhile the majority of research staff are on open ended contracts “with end dates” connected to funding, which UCL say are not fixed term contracts, but other staff are appointed on fixed term contracts.

It is not surprising that people are confused, either about their rights or the rights of others, or whether the contract they have been given is the correct one.

We warmly encourage members to attend this meeting.
