Improving the care of women at increased risk of preterm birth at the UCLH Preterm Birth Clinic

Professor Anna David and her team lead a weekly NHS-led Preterm Birth Clinic at UCLH, with 350-400 referrals annually. The team has specific expertise in women at higher risk of preterm birth due to uterine anomalies such as unicornuate uterus, late-labour stage Caesarean section, recurrent urinary tract infection, radiotherapy/bone marrow transplantation. They can provide low “McDonald” and high vaginal “Shirodkar” cervical cerclage, laparoscopic and open transabdominal cervical cerclage.

Many women participate in one or more of our research studies. The clinic benefits from the help of a team of midwives funded to deliver research and to recruit women to national research studies to improve outcomes related to preterm birth.
