UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London, 7th Annual International Postgraduate Conference
Inclusion Exclusion
Conference history
The International Postgraduate Conference was first held in 1999. On
alternate occasions, the Conference takes place at the School for Slavonic
and East European Studies, University College London; in other years it is
hosted by different institutions throughout the world, and previous venues
have included Warsaw and UC Berkeley.
In 2006, the 7th Postgraduate Conference thus returns to SSEES between 16
and 18 February. This edition of the Conference is the largest yet, with 121
participants selected from over 350 submissions. The 2006 conference has
taken 'Inclusion/Exclusion' as its theme, and traces the ramifications of
inclusion and exclusion, in the present day and in the past, through
disciplines ranging from economics and political science to literature and
cultural history.
The Conference aims to provide an opportunity for postgraduates and young
academics from across the world whose research involves central and eastern
Europe and the countries of the former Soviet Union to present their work.
Even more importantly, it enables them to exchange ideas and build contacts
with international colleagues from a wide variety of disciplines. A
selection of papers will also be published in a conference volume and
various journals.
The Conference is organised by a committee of postgraduate students, who
began preparations in late 2004. It is entirely dependent on sponsorship,
and the priority of its fundraising efforts have been to ensure that
postgraduates from the region itself should not be deterred by the costs of
attendance.
