Liz is a part time PhD student at UCL - School of Slavonic and East European Studies. Her PhD research is on Romanian Folk Ensembles, and her main interests are the anthropology and ethnology of South East Europe with particular reference to Romania, Bulgaria and Macedonia.
She has travelled extensively in South East Europe since 1986 undertaking ethnographical research into dance, music, costume and customs in the area. She is trained in ballet and national dance and continued dance interests actively within Balkan cultural groups during her previous career. She has taught traditional dance together with her husband, Nick Green, for the Society for International Folk Dancing and Imperial School of Teachers of Dance specialising in the dances of southeast Europe and Scandinavia. She compiled the Bulgarian national dance syllabus for the ISTD (Imperial School of Teachers of Dance) and has produced educational booklets on Bulgarian and Romanian traditional culture.
She currently dances with Martisorul Romanian group in London, plays tamboura with the Vupros Balkan music group, and in the past was a member Sonce Macedonian group, Balaton Hungarian dance group and Sborenka Balkan group.
She is also interested in renovating traditional folk costumes, practical archaeology and genealogy.
