T71/885: claim from Thomas Mewburn (not Thomas Mawburn, as stated in Parliamentary Papers) and Abraham Garnett, as owners. Counterclaim from Messrs. John Campbell & Co., by virtue of a mortgage of £5852 19s 0d. The counterclaim was 'withdrawn by J. Campbell in virtue of a second mortgage upon 29 slaves attached to the above property'. Counterclaim from David Hall and Chas. McGarel, by virtue of a mortgage of £25000. The counterclaim was withdrawn, although Wm. Johnston (the attorney to Hall and McGarel) had made a replication, received 25/01/1836, stating that by virtue of an assignment dated 27/04/1835, and of a deed of mortgage dated 15/01/1829, they claim to be entitled to the said compensation.
