David Kerr

Son of William Kerr, provost of Forfar, and his wife Elizabeth Ballingall. From Forar, Scotland. Arrived in Jamaica in 1768. Kerr was 43 years old, a physician, when he married the 20 year old Sarah Newton Jarrett, daughter of Herbert Newton Jarrett II. Through this marriage he acquired Spring Garden estate in St James. He bought land at Dry Ridge from his brother-in-law John Jarrett II. In England 1792-3 and 1798-1800 (when they rented Spring House, near Freemantle Park in Hampshire). Major-General in the Jamaican militia. Returned to Scotland after the death of his wife in 1814. Bought land near Brechin and rented Dubton House near Montrose.

Died 27/01/1829 age 90. A deed of settlement dated 30/10/1828 stated that he had already settled his real estate property. Inventory valued his personal estate at £846 13s 6d.
