PROB 11/1426/244 - precis. David Bernard of St James, Jamaica. To my beloved wife Judith Bernard £500 Jamaican currency per annum for life. Twenty house negroes, horses, pen called Bona Vesta for the use of herself and my family as long as she lives, and as long as my daughters remain unmarried. To my son Joseph Bowen Bernard £1,000 currency at age 21. All the residue equally to all my children including the one now expected to be born in this year, share and share alike. My wife, my son Joseph Bowen Bernard, my brother William Rhodes Bernard, my nephew Charles Edward Bernard, my friend Philip Anglin Scarlett and my cousin William Parr Bernard to be executors.
