Biography
- Will of Thomas Fennell planter of St James Cornwall [made in 18333] proved 07/07/1840. Under the will he left £300 to each of his two brothers William Fennell and Samuel Fennell, both of Ireland (both of whom q.v.), and £150 to the children of his late sister Mrs Mary Sandford and £100 to his sister Mrs Elizabeth Hoar and £100 to his sister Susanna Fennell. He left £50 to each of his two reputed quadroon children Ann Fennell and Joseph Fennell 'child slaves belonging to the Providence estate. He left his 'mountain settlement' called Floyds Lodge and 'the following slaves viz Thomas Fennell, Catherine Sharp and her female child and all their increase' to his housekeeper Jane Perry and her children for life, with the remainder of the enslaved people to be sold as early as possible to find the monetary legacies. His residuary legatees were Jane Perry and her children, John, William, Ann, Samuel and Robert Fennell. His executors were Ben Haughton Tharp and his brothers William and Samuel Fennell.
