Samuel Fennell

With William Fennell (q.v.) awarded the compensation, as executors of William's and Samuel's brother Thomas Fennell, for Floyd's Lodge estate in St James Jamaica which had belonged to Thomas Fennell, who originally claimed as owner-in-fee.

1. Will of Thomas Fennell planter of St James Cornwall proved 07/07/1840.

2. A Samuel Fennell of Saint Mary Axe, merchant, dealer and chapman was bankrupt in 1827: it is not clear whether this was the same man.

T71/873 St James No. 11; T71/1593 p. 110 17/02/1836 letter to Wm Fennell Esq. Hargraves Buildings Cork, approving amended award. Letter 12/01/1836 to Glenelg from William Fennell: brother died in Jamaica, 'Now my Lord I am at a loss to know what steps are necessary for me to take in order to entitle me to receive the compensation allowed by Govt to Negro Proprietors'. A Thomas Fennell also had a small award in his own name for St James No. 494, although that award was of a later date (25/01/1836) than the one for Floyd's Lodge paid to his executors (19/10/1835). Both Samuel and William signed at the National Debt Office for the compensation (NDO4 series).
