Eldest son of John Tharp III of Green Pond and his wife Ann nee Harding. Born before 1761 (his younger brother William was baptised in St James, Jamaica, 13/09/1762). Inherited an equal share of Green Pond with his brother on the death of his father in 1765. Described as "of St James" in 1773 when an annuity for 10 years was granted to his mother (since remarried to John Stevens of London) on Green Pond in lieu of dower. Of Holborn, London, a batchelor, when he married the minor Elizabeth Mary Harding in Holborn, 30/06/1774. No will has yet been found for him, but it seems likely be bequeathed a life interest in Green Pond to his wife as she is listed as owner of the estate in the slave registers from 1817 to 1829.
